Milestone: Five Hundred Rhode Island Businesses Have Registered for RISavers, Expanding Access to Retirement Savings

Providence, RI –Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa announced today that, just over 90 days since the launch of RISavers, more than 500 employers have registered their businesses to participate in the state’s portable retirement savings program. More than 2,800 employees statewide have already started saving for their retirement, building a secure financial future for themselves and their family.

RISavers was launched by Treasurer Diossa last October and aimed at private sector employees who may not have access to employer-sponsored retirement plans.

“RISavers is already delivering on its promise to help more Rhode Islanders build financial security for their future. In just a short period of time, this program has connected thousands of workers, many for the first time, to a simple and affordable way to save for retirement.” said General Treasurer Diossa. “The early success of RISavers is a testament to strong partnerships, thoughtful policymaking, and a shared commitment to economic opportunity. My office will continue working to expand participation and ensure every Rhode Island worker has a fair shot at a secure retirement.”

Private employers with five or more employees who do not currently offer a retirement plan are required to provide access to the program. Employers register at no cost, and employees will be automatically enrolled but can opt out at any time. Employees of a micro business (1-4 employees) can still participate and sign up directly by visiting our website www.RISavers.gov. Employees will own their savings, decide their contribution amounts through automatic payroll deductions, and can carry their savings with them when they change jobs.

Employees and their employers can use www.RISavers.gov to find helpful information and sign up for this service. RISavers is overseen by the Office of the General Treasurer and administered by Vestwell State Savings.
