RI Pension and OPEB Funds Deliver Strong Performance in FY26

Published on Thursday, August 06, 2026

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Today, Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa announced that the state's pension fund generated a 14.02% investment return for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, significantly outperforming its 7% actuarial assumed rate of return. The Employee's Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI) ended the fiscal year with an all-time high of $13.5 billion in assets.

The state’s OPEB fund ended the fiscal year with $839 million in assets and produced a return of 13.11%, outperforming its 5% actuarial assumed rate of return.

"Strong investment performance is critical to ensuring we can meet our commitments to Rhode Island's public employees and retirees while protecting taxpayers," said Treasurer Diossa. "The FY26 results reflect the disciplined, long-term investment strategy of our investment team and the State Investment Commission. By outperforming our actuarial assumed rates of return for both the pension and OPEB funds, we are strengthening the financial foundation of these systems and reaffirming our dedication to responsible stewardship of public assets."
